WVLC Departments

WVLC is divided into four departments that work to promote, assist, and support the development of West Virginia Libraries.

Administrative Services are the essential mechanisms enabling the WVLC to function in support of West Virginia public libraries. This division manages the business aspects of the agency.

Library Development provides leadership and guidance for the development of library programs and facilities; administers funds for improvement of library services; conducts on-site visits to attend programs and discuss activities; writes proposals and collaborates with local, state and federal agencies to develop and implement library programs; collects, compiles and disseminates statistics on West Virginia libraries; develops and supports training opportunities for librarians and trustees; publishes directories, manuals, posters and brochures; and facilitates statewide library planning efforts.

Network Services supports, maintains and continuously upgrade the Statewide Library Network infrastructure and its technical environment, enhancing electronic linkages among and between libraries in West Virginia while providing connectivity to a world of information to all West Virginia Citizens.

The Special Services Division of the Library Commission is part of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress. This free program loans recorded and Braille books and magazines, music scores in Braille and large print, and specially designed playback equipment to residents of the United States who are unable to read or use standard print materials because of blindness, visual impairment or physical limitations. Special Services is the Regional Library that administers this service for the state of West Virginia.
